normvz > "Ol' Blue Eyes.... err.. Aqua Eyes"
Day 212, Thursday, October 1

This is a Double-breasted Cormorant.... up close.

Similar to yesterdays post by Banjon....I was surprised he allowed me to approach so close to him... slowly...to within 6 feet. He would look at me.... then look a little more to his left, then back to his right, then back at me again. But otherwise, just sat there.

Unfortunately, when looking directly at me...... the sun would bathe his right side in bright light, but leave his opposite side in deep shade. Only half of a good capture.

But capturing those eyes is all I really wanted......

leaving Cathys

It's back to the highway. I will post this and then leave sister Cathy and drift south toward home. Her garage sale went well and now she can see what is in her garage and garden shed. Also, just needed some organizing.

I missed doing a little of "the worlds longest yard sale"... 450 miles, Ohio to Alabama, via highway 127... last weekend, but there is always next year.

This photo keeps showing up in my "Future Dailys" gallery.... so I guess I like it. I think this was on Route 89, going north out of Flagstaff, toward the Grand Canyon....I think.

Day 191, Thlursday, September 10

The past few days have been cloudy and rainy with only occasional sun.
It was raining yesterday morning when I got up..... but still decided to take a drive and find something to photograph.
Maybe a rainbow. That would be a nice.

This was the best I could do......

Got to go.... it's 9pm and the Beatles Anthology Part 3 is starting on VH-1.
Ah yes, I remember the 60's. The storms.......the cold war, the hot Vietnam war, assassinations, political upheaval, social unrest,
race to the moon, civil rights, military service, the generation gap.
I think I see them all in the discombobulation of this photograph.

The ripples that spread out.. ??
They represent optimism for the future and will eventually triumph over the photograph.

I'll catch that rainbow tomorrow.

Day 253, Wednesday, November 11

This is not the best photo for Veterans Day because...

Cemeteries are for Memorial Day... but remember..... this can be the cost of being a serviceman...
... even on our home soil... as witnessed at Ft. Hood.
So let's salute both those serving now..... and those that have passed on.....
... whether by combat or old age.

Thank you, all those serving and served, men and women.

Taken at the South Florida VA National Cemetery

Final day of the garage sale...

Meanwhile... back at the Grand Canyon.

I thought this blooming plant on a ledge at the Grand Canyon deserved a shot. I think it is of the Agave species.

Funny....for a minute there, it looked like the cover of a National Geographic Magazine.

Day 285, Sunday, December 13

I didn't want to do another Blue Heron but....

I wanted to show a Heron in a setting other than flying or on a nest. I caught this guy in the bright, early morning light as he was looking for sticks for his nest. I thought the green tree branches, cypress knobs at his feet, shadow and light... were a good change of pace.

Shot RAW with a little crop off the sides to make it square and the standard tweeking.

Day 1, ...Starting out

The van is packed and I'm ready to start my road trip West. I'll leave in a couple of hours. I hope to go as far as the Pacific Redwood Forest and visit many places in between.

Lately I've been wanting to do a black and white, so I'm digging into the archives for something I took a couple of months ago. The morning I took this, I had seen something similar, so my intention from the start was a b&w... I just never got to it.

After this, I'll post from the road.

Day 222, Sunday, October 11

These are Wood Storks. I believe the bottom two are juveniles.

Wood Storks are on the endangered species list... but their numbers are increasing. They can be found in most of Florida and along the coastline of southeastern Georgia and South Carolina. They are the only Stork breeding in North America

Day 189, Tuesday, September 8

From my archives....looking east from the top of Signal Mountain in Grand Teton Park

When at Grand Teton Park, getting a good signal for the laptop was difficult. But up on Signal Mountain.... a coincidental name I think.... I got 4 bars. I spent a couple of hours here processing photos and other computer stuff.... and just enjoying the view.
