Kirtland is a nice community....with country roads and everyone knows everyone else.

This is a local pasture where you can watch the deer in the evening.

Day 171, Friday, August 21

Arrived home yesterday afternoon and by evening the van was unpacked and the condo was up and running.

I don't live in any of these buildings, but I don't have a photo to post so I'll use this one....which I made up about three months ago but never used.

Day 283, Friday, December 11

Sometime... when your walking through the woods, don't forget to look up.

The strands of web holding these guys didn't show up in the photo. This is the way it was for 75 yards..... 3-8 feet over my head.

Be bold and view at X2,

Day 147, July 28 ...
Day 27, Mile 5520 to 5555
Grand Tetons, fourth day

Looking for and finding locations for mountain views is a lot of fun......but I've also hiked a couple of trails. One was a trail in the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve up to Phelps Lake and saw a mother bear and two cubs. Second time I have seen that on this road trip. Last time was in Yosemite. Too far away for a good photo.

On one hike I came across a flower I have never seen. It is called a Columbine. I understand they come in many colors, including white, purple and peach.

Got some suggestions for a wireless signal from littlebro, but found four bars at the top of Signal Mountain. Don't know where the name came from..... coincidence I'm sure.

Day 94, June 5 ...

With all my adventures...I almost forgot to show this one (just kidding).... And you thought I didn't go rafting. Holly (on the left) and Roxanne are in the back just having fun. Melody and I are in the middle, hamming it up for the camera. And Joe (on the left) and Warren can't take their eyes off the big wave that is about to put them underwater. Joe and Warren did a great job up front (along with Sam) keeping us straight. LOL....I laugh every time I see them looking at that wave. lol

Sam was our guide and a wonderful fellow. He didn't tell us, but I heard later that he is a probation officer during the week. He kept us on the straight and narrow while other rafters were going sideways, backwards, getting stuck on the rocks and sometimes even losing a passenger. We did the middle rapids, total of three hours, with a 15 minute break when you can jump in the water and swim or just stretch your legs. Not the most wild. The wildest is a full day trip with an hour break. Maybe next time. Would also be nice to do this in the fall, when the trees along the riverside would be in full fall color.

This was the best of five photos offered. One of them showed nothing but a big wave covering us..... You couldn't see us as we got another soaking. Too much fun....let's do it again Sam.

Of course I didn't take this......

Day 150, July 31 ...
Day 30, Mile 6100 to 6150
Mt. Rushmore

I went to Mt. Rushmore in the morning. Half a day is all that is needed. I was impressed. This was done 75 years ago with hard work and dedication. Their likeness is so very accurate.

The four Presidents stand for
Washington....Birth and Founding
Jefferson... Expansion...Louisiana Purchase
Lincoln..... Preservation... Civil War
Roosevelt... Leading into the Future... Speak softly and carry a big stick-Monroe Doctrine

Then I went to the local town of Keystone and had a burger and a beer, hung out among the tourist shops and watched the people.....including many bikers. Next week is Annual Bike Week in nearby Sturgis and they are already beginning to come to town.

I don't know where I am going after this. I think I will just travel east and see what happens.
